BigHominid and the Letter Not from Phoenix

I've just submitted the following letter to the editor in response to an article on Salon ("A Nation of Scared Sheep" by Louise Witt) that accuses the American public of being, basically, insane (for Witt, we're scared and in mass denial). I doubt this letter will get published. That's why it's on the blog. Just in case.

*** *** ***

Louise Witt's credibility goes out the window when she accuses the American public of mass denial and then cites the noble words of Hermann Goering in support of her argument.

Witt has tried Bush and found him guilty when she declares late in her article, "It's not as though Americans don't take lying seriously. They do." Maybe Bush was lying; we don't know yet. Her article also brings up Clinton, but to no avail: that guy's a known liar.

The most plausible reason for Bush's "pass" is conveniently overlooked: the search for WMDs isn't over yet-- and won't be for a while. We were told this would take a long time. Am I in denial to believe that?

Bush is screwing the nation in a lot of ways, especially economically, but I don't think he was wrong to prepare us for the long haul. Accusing the country of mass denial smacks of the lame and loony "vast right wing conspiracy" rhetoric of that known liar's wife.
