percussive pleasures

There are times in my life when I crave a sophisticated diversion—something complex and subtle, something that forces the brain to do a bit of work to understand the diversion in question. At other times, though, I'm extremely easy to entertain: simple minds, simple pleasures, as they say. Today, I poured myself a soda, and after the liquid had settled around the ice cubes, and bubbles had formed along the sides of my clear plastic cup, I lifted the cup and tapped it once, hard, on my desk. A flight of bubbles suddenly shot crazily to the soda's surface like desperate tadpoles racing through an obstacle course of ice chunks.

And I was entertained. I love doing that.
