shrine for the mountain spirit

I had sent a link over to John McCrarey; it featured a bunch of sanshin-gak, or shrines for the local mountain spirit (sanshin). One in particular caught my eye:

The sanshin is often depicted as having a tiger beside him. The animal serves as a messenger in certain stories, and seems bound to the mountain spirit by a sense of duty.
