I was thinking to myself that, had I tried to watch this film, say, five years ago, I might not have made it through the whole thing.

At the same time, the movie is actually full of hilarious lines, and the ending, while I wouldn't call it upbeat, points the way toward hope and healing. So: view at your own risk, but that risk comes with certain rewards. It's a complex movie with plenty of adult truths.

Kevin Kimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01328790917314282058noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5541500.post-81229108212301268342017-03-14T22:58:44.415+09:002017-03-14T22:58:44.415+09:00I'm conflicted on whether I really want to wat...I'm conflicted on whether I really want to watch this, especially after hearing one reviewer describe it as a "sob orgy."Charleshttp://www.liminality.orgnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5541500.post-76484240812044569122017-03-14T22:34:59.670+09:002017-03-14T22:34:59.670+09:00I agreed with your review. And later on, he tells Patrick, "I can't beat it."

Great movie that didn't fall into the usual story traps.Kevin Kimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01328790917314282058noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5541500.post-6969868918371508362017-03-14T22:18:13.162+09:002017-03-14T22:18:13.162+09:00I think this sums it up nicely. I think--and this is just me--that it mirrors the fact that for much of the film Lee is emotionally dead in many ways. His defense mechanism is just to exist without his emotions (aside from rage) as much as he can.

I think it's a hell of a movie. I don't want to watch it again any time soon, though.
