huh?

In this article about how China is killing 20 million trees per year to sustain its disposable-chopstick habit, we read the following bizarreness:

Chopsticks quickly became popular around Asia. However[,] Chinese chopsticks are longer than their Korean and Japanese counterparts in order to reach the communal dishes in the centre of the table. Koreans also often use metal chopsticks because of their love of barbecue. [emphasis added]

Am I dense, or am I just not getting the cause/effect relationship, here? Koreans love barbecue, therefore they use metal chopsticks. OK; got it.

  1. Metal chopsticks conduct heat very well, and holding metal chopsticks over a fire is a good way to burn your fingers. Everyone knows that Koreans love pain because that which does not kill you makes you stronger. In fact, I'm pretty sure the use of metal chopsticks is what allowed Korea to perform so well in the 2002 World Cup.
