As summer heat continues to roll into my corner of the world, I've kept my air conditioner off by choice despite the fact that it's currently 29ºC (84ºF) outside right now. I've been surviving on fans this entire time. Since my studio's window faces west, things are worst in the afternoon and early evening, and I can definitely sense a marked rise in humidity. Eventually, when temps are over 32ºC (90ºF), I'll have to start using my A/C, but for the moment, this seems to be the best way to save some money. My utilities bill for last month was a little over W200,000 for running my fans, which is a damn sight cheaper than running my A/C all day. That would put me closer to W400,000 a month. Not using my A/C also saves me the work of having to clean out that damn blower fan. I'll still have to clean it out at some point, though: the real heat is on its way, and the A/C will be necessary.
Have you thought about putting a shade or reflective material over your window?
ReplyDeleteYup, I've got the shade down. It's not solid, though, so a lot of light gets in.
DeleteAs hot as it is here, I've adapted and primarily keep cool with fans. I will, on occasion, use the aircon in the bedroom, but that is usually at Swan's request.
