I have come to some decisions

I'll be walking tonight, and I've decided to stay local because that's easier and cheaper. I'll be walking straight out of my apartment, down to Bundang's Jeongja Station, turning around, and heading back. That's 18K one way, or 36K total. And it's going to be a great night and early morning for such a walk. If I leave at 8 p.m., it'll be only 22ºC (72ºF). During the night, temps will dip down to 15ºC (59ºF), which is absolutely perfect walking temperature for me. By the time I finish on Wednesday morning, temps will be back up to 21ºC (70ºF) by 9 a.m.

By 9 a.m., it'll be broad daylight, but I'll be tired as hell, so Wednesday, as a day to do things, will likely be a lost cause. I'm currently finishing up the checking of the dead-tree manuscript of my movie-review book. I doubt I'll have the mental coherence to do that on Wednesday. It'll be enough just to put one foot in front of the other.

Another "advantage," if you can call it an advantage, of this route is that it has no huge hills. The Yangpyeong-Yeoju route has that one big hill at around the 90-minute mark, plus a couple of gentle rises that aren't really a problem. The disadvantage of tonight's route is that it's longer by 3K. Now, 3K feels like nothing at the beginning of a walk, but that the end of a long day of schlepping, it feels like forever. 36K is roughly the distance I would walk were I walking from Hanam City to Yangpyeong (technically a 35K route), so it's not as though I've never done such distances before. It's been a couple of years, but I used to do a 60K "crazy" walk every year for a while. I still have it in me to do such distances, weather permitting.

So the route's decided. I bought myself a thing that makes the Brits snicker: We Yanks call it a fanny pack because, in US English, fanny just means butt. But in bonnie England and in other countries that use some variant of the King's, fanny means the front of the bum for women. It is, then, a naughty, naughty word to describe an innocent utility pouch worn around the waist. But this is one of those sorry not sorry moments: Any culture that can say Fancy a fag? with a straight face doesn't have the right to act scandalized by fanny pack. So I feel secure having purchased my fanny pack, which will hold a water bottle and some snacks.

Righto—back to my manuscript.
