da MAN

Dr. Buswell

This is Dr. Robert Buswell, the dude I'd like to study under. Here's a great article about him and his work. I met Buswell for an info-loaded hour in the summer of 2002-- very enriching conversation, despite its brevity. His books on Korean Buddhist monasticism carry special weight because Buswell was himself a monk in a Korean order, based at the temple Songgwang-sa, for five years.

Ideally, I'd like to end up at UCLA, but the program is highly competitive, and my still-middling Korean skills are a huge liability.

Anyone out there going to pull some strings for me?

[NB: If you look carefully, you'll see Dr. Buswell's in a relaxed full-lotus.]
