In the philosophy of mind, the substance dualist position claims that mind and matter are fundamentally different, which for most substance dualists means that mind is not material: "We're not quite sure what mind might be, but it ain't matter."
Which, of course, explains how this is possible, right?
Sorry, but I'm a physicalist. Philosophers can say what they will about the immateriality of mind, but I've yet to discover a reason to take them seriously.
