Mom and Dad are celebrating their 40th anniversary today. It also turns out that today is Good Friday, Tenebrae, the darkest day of the Christian calendar, the day Our Lord and Savior died.
Hooray, Mom and Dad!
On a more serious note, it's always nice to know that there remain some couples in the States who actually love each other enough to stick it out together-- to take pleasure in the good times and weather the bad times. Love ain't easy, and the reality of marriage reinforces that fact. Couples cannot survive if they don't have that substratum, that force very much like the Force: "an energy field created by all living things: it surrounds us; it penetrates us; it binds the galaxy together."
While Mom and Dad haven't mastered the Jedi arts of levitation, mind-reading, and partial clairvoyance, they've got everything else down pat. After forty years, it's safe to say they are, in their own way, Jedi Masters of love.
Oooooh, that's corny. But it's meant to be, dammit, it's meant to be.
Sorry I can't be there to celebrate with you, guys, but I'm assuming this will be more of a private event-- a time to break out the whips, the bondage gear, the olive oil, the KY jelly, the tiny forest creatures that fit so neatly into human orifices, and all the other implements that keep married existence fresh and lively.
Happy 40th, guys.
