One recurrent Christian critique of Buddhism is that it lacks the impulse toward social action. The critique is based in part on an outdated and stereotyped view of the religion; Burma's monks provide more evidence of how wrong the stereotype is.
It's also true that the monks seem to have waited a rather long time. Then there's the Catholics: "In another development, the Catholic Church in Burma has ordered its clergy not to get involved in any protests, which were led last week by thousands of Buddhist monks and their supporters."
