It appears that monkeys do quite well on both math and short-term memory tests. In a math test that compared monkeys (specifically, macaques) and college students, the monkeys scored an average of 76 percent correct when given increasingly difficult problems in simple addition, while the college students scored 94 percent.
Can you imagine a future in which simian performance is factored into college admission? It'd suck to be the kid who comes home to his mother and reveals he won't be attending any of the colleges he'd applied to because he'd been beaten by a bunch of monkeys.
But all that's just stuff and nonsense. What we really need to find out is how well monkeys can field-strip and reassemble an M-16 while under fire.
