I hate the fact that I'm more literate than my Firefox browser's unasked-for spelling checker, which underlines in red any word it considers misspelled. The function is limited to whatever you write in text fields, such as those found in email and blog windows. Just a second ago, I was flagged for having written "parentheticals."
And I just got flagged again.

Your computer is not vicious, it's just stupid. But the great thing about computers is that you can teach them something once and they'll never forget.
ReplyDeleteTry this: hover your mouse pointer over a properly spelled word that Firefox has flagged as misspelled (say, "parentheticals") and access the context menu (on the PC this is done by right-clicking, on the Mac...?). Select "add to dictionary" and voila! No more red line! (I just added "voila" to my dictionary).
If you accidentally add a word that you want to delete later, this Yahoo! Answers page has you covered:

Or, if you want to be a complete Luddite about the whole thing, go to Tools|Options|Advanced|General and uncheck the "check my spelling as I type" checkbox. (Just added "uncheck" and "checkbox"--yes, Firefox, those are both words.)
Better?
Yeah it pinged me on accoutrements yesterday. Funnily I notice pinged in the past tense is OK, but "pings" gets the red line of spelling death!?
