I don't think a new sidebar will be possible unless I learn how to make one myself. The range of Blogger templates seems, bizarrely, to have shrunk since the last time I checked the layout/design options; I could have sworn that I saw a two-sidebar template a few months back. So another solution will have to be implemented.
