Just watched the new "True Grit" with the missus last weekend, actually. I'd subjected her to a viewing of the original about a month ago in preparation for the Coen version. I was never terribly fond of the original - too cartoonish, too clean, too Technicolor - as I prefer my westerns to be more true to what I imagine that period to have been: dirty, difficult and dangerous.
