the human adventure is just beginning

Nathan writes a fascinating and heartfelt post about a recent visit to a Buddhist temple in Coquitlam, BC. (A Japanese temple with a Korean-made bell! A bell that has English on it!)

Charles lets the world know he's passed the first major hurdle of many as he edges ever closer to obtaining his Ph.D.

  1. Thanks, Kevin! I was wondering if I had read the word "Korea" on the bell correctly! It is quite an interesting bell. There were also some rock gnomes in the garden, which I found rather intriguing. Anyway, I have now visited, since my return, a Tibetan Chinese temple, a Korean temple, and a Japanese temple. The funny thing is--if I want to visit every Buddhist temple in the Vancouver area, I've got more than enough to keep me busy for a long, long time. And you know, I just might do it! Certainly, though, there are at least a few more truly spectacular (for this area) temples that I have yet to see.

  2. I was always a pretty good hurdler... here's to hoping.

  3. Sometimes I think the North American west coast is flypaper for East Asians. They hop the Pacific... and get stuck there. Once stuck, they shrug and go, "Oh, well... guess we'll build our communities here." Heh.
