"Learning languages makes you smarter."

Amen to that. Best line from this short blog post:

Speaking only one language is apparently the mental equivalent of living a sedentary lifestyle.

  1. Well, it's good to know that I am not sedentary in at least one aspect of my life.

(What happened to the old comment moderation captcha, by the way? I have a really hard time reading the new ones. Maybe I am a robot...)

  2. Come on, dude-- reading new-style captcha images makes you smarter.

Joking aside, it would appear that Google (which owns Blogger) has unilaterally replaced the old system with this new one... which isn't really all that new, as I've seen this style of captcha for a couple years.

  3. Yeah, I've seen the style for quite a few years, and I've never liked it. I preferred the previous Blogger version better.

But the Almighty Google knows best and has a plan for our lives, so I suppose we should obey.

  4. I saw an interesting and unsettling remark to the effect that, as the bots get smarter, it's getting harder for humans to prove they're human. Feels almost like a reversal of the Turing Test-- on whom is the burden of proof?

  5. Heck, when the bots get smart enough, they'll probably start leaving more intelligent comments than 90% of what you see on YouTube...

  6. Damn... Another way in which I am sedentary...
