    My thoughts and prayer go out to Melissa's family...

    Have we just reached the stage in our lives when death becomes a more or less constant companion?

    I found out this morning that a college friend with whom I had lost touch has cancer--and less than a month to live. He is the same age as me.

    I'm feeling a little shell-shocked right now.
