Interesting to see you mention Deen and DOMA in the same sentence. I just invoked the two in a discussion with my son.
It should come as no surprise that I don't want the government involved in marriage decisions or any other aspect of a citizens private life. But the sanctimonious posturing of the politicians who passed the DOMA (including the President who signed it into law) in applauding the Supreme Courts decision to overturn their own legislation reeks of hypocrisy.
My son argues they should be praised for having "evolved" their opinion and moving away from their previous bigotry. I said let's ask Paula Deen about that...
I am definitely out of the loop, as I have zero idea of what Paula Deen has to do with the DOMA. In fact, I barely know who Paula Deen is (except that she peddles heart attacks for a living).
On the fall of DOMA, though: score one for human rights in the US. We'll catch up to the advanced nations sooner or later.
On the politicians "evolving": I think they, as good politicians, are simply able to determine which way the wind is blowing.
