sad farewells

Along the portion of my walk that led me downtown, I came across a set of yellow ribbons for the second time. Each ribbon has a handwritten message on it, and a quick perusal of the messages allowed me to surmise that these were addressed to the hundreds of victims who died in the Sewol ferry disaster this past April. The ribbon that's most visible in this picture—the one with the green-ink message—says, roughly, "Wishing you happiness. I will make an effort not to let your death be in vain." I found that deeply touching.
