I LOVE AUSTRALIA

Just reappeared in my building's basement grocery:


Know what else I love? I love how "Bundaberg" sounds like Tolkien's "Gundabad"—as in the "Gundabad wargs" referred to in "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey." Now if only the Aussies had a drink company that sounded like "Rhosgobel"...

    Well, I guess that answers the question of whether or not Bundaberg has hit the shelves. I'm going to have to look a little harder the next time I'm at a mart.

    I was distracted by the green bottle, but that one's a bit alcoholic. Not that I've never had wine coolers and other lightly alcoolisé drinks before, but in this case I'm more blandly curious than seriously tempted.

    They are sell those bottles at e-mart as well.

    My buddy Steve doCarmo used to bring over cans of Idris Fiery Ginger Beer, a British brand, whenever he visited my place for Thanksgiving and Christmas. That stuff was something else. Luckily, it was never as "fiery" as the name implied, but it did have a bit of a kick. I'd put Bundaberg at about the same level as Idris, although it's much smoother, like the Northern Neck Ginger Ale that I've mentioned elsewhere.

    I drank two bottles last night; I've got two more waiting for me tonight. Only problem is how expensive the beers are: they're about W2,500 a bottle in my local grocery. (Which is a mini E-Mart, by the way.)

    The Gongdeok e-mart. Never had ginger beer before I saw it at the store. Almost wish it had more bite. I also tried mixing with a Sam Adams beer to make a shandy, but wasn't to my liking. The ginger beer as it is, is amazingly refreshing.

    No alcohol in the lemon lime & bitters concoction. (Unless one adds gin, which probably makes a pretty yummy drink... If one were to drink gin.)
