A lot of Ph.D.s are that way, thinking that their degree makes them an expert on everything. One thing advanced degrees don't confer is humility. Plus, there's the adage that People know more when you tell them something than when you ask them something, which also applies to many insufferable folks with doctorates (and, to be fair, to many folks without doctorates).
Well, I might not have a degree in linguistics, but I think this is a stupid word.
