As cold as my walk had been the other night, my walk on Friday night was even colder, at about 7°F, or -13.9°C. But I was ready: this time around, I wrapped my scarf around my head instead of around my neck, thus adding an extra layer of warmth to my already-masked face. This proved to be the crucial step to ensuring I was relatively warm (except, once again, for my legs) during my walk back to my apartment. That added layer of fabric made all the difference in the world, and I was about as comfortable as I could be while walking along my thirty-minute route, sparing myself the pain of breathing in super-cold air. I now know the secret to walking long distances in such cold: use the scarf, and put on another layer of pants. Voilà. With such armor, I become invincible.
Get some long underwear, Kevin!
ReplyDeleteI often wear long underwear in the winter and I know older people who wear it for the whole season and even into the colder parts of fall and spring. You're getting on Kevin and it's time to act like an old man (I think I am four years older than you).
It will warm you when you need it and be unnoticeable when you don't need it.
Sounds as if a trip to an Itaewon big & tall store is in order.
ReplyDeleteLong underwear is a possible solution. But, I've found that long underwear move, shift, and bunch under most other pants and can become uncomfortable over a distance. I would recommend some flannel lined pants. I have a pair of trousers from LL Bean that are flannel lined and they do just the trick. I've had to wear them from time to time this winter as its been bitterly cold.

Mike,
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good idea, but I'm pretty sure such pants, in my size, aren't to be found in Korea, so I guess I'll have to order from LL Bean. Am worried that, by the time the pants arrive, I won't need them until next year!
