Friedrich Nietzsche is often called "the father of postmodernism." Watch the 12-minute summary of Nietzsche's thought below and come to your own conclusions, but I'll just put this out there: signs of PoMo seem, to me, to be strewn throughout the presentation: truth as a function of power dynamics, the questioning of grand narratives, etc. The roots are all there, or so I think. It's not all PoMo, of course: Nietzsche's notion of the Übermensch, for example, would likely strike today's postmodernists as a trope in a larger, teleological metanarrative, and as any postmodernist will tell you, Metanarratives Are Bad.
