This is not good news. I don't engage in politics here (it's actually a deportable offense), but I have discussed the Marcos election with one of his big fans. She insists that the dictator father was the best president ever and did the most to improve the lives of the Filipino people. She says all that stuff about him being a thieving murderer is US propaganda. I don't know how many other Filipinos share that view, but it was a massive landslide for Bongbong.
It will be sad to see if the Philippines does become China's bitch under Marcos' rule. Honestly, that seems more and more inevitable. One of the reasons I have for not purchasing a residence here is that I want to be able to walk away when China walks in. My hopes that it won't happen in my lifetime are further diminished with this election. China is the new Japan of the 1930s--it wants to be the only power in Asia. So, it's either stand up or bend over. Things don't look good.
