Queen Elizabeth II has passed away, signifying the end of an era. She died in Scotland's Balmoral Castle at the ripe old age of 96. I was beginning to think the old girl was going to live forever, but time comes for us all in the end.
My buddy Mike texted "God save the King," so I immediately went hunting for the news. While the queen's death isn't exactly a surprise given her age, it's still somewhat hard to believe. Elizabeth was queen for 70 years (1952-2022), making her the second longest-reigning monarch after Louis XIV of France (72 years). Elizabeth's son Charles, no spring chicken, is now formally known as King Charles III. He takes over in his mother's stead.
Where Great Britain goes from here is a mystery. I wish the country luck.

What about that double rainbow, eh? Even Richard Dawkins can't explain the timing. Love it when tradition refutes scientism by marking the sky with colour. Look out for the sun refusing to rise tomorrow.

ReplyDeleteI think we all kind of thought, in at least a small, irrational part of ourselves, that she was going to live forever. She was a fixture of life for so many people, even beyond the shores of Britain. It's hard to imagine the nation without her.
