Dude makes his own pepperoni, then makes his own pizza. Not a bad-looking crust, either.

But that pepperoni sure looks like a lot of work.

  1. Without even watching that, I can tell you based on what I know of meat curing that making my own pepperoni would be a lot of work. I'm not gonna lie--there is something very appealing about going back to basics and making things from scratch. But, most of the time, I don't do it for the same reason that I don't brew my own beer: It's a lot of work for something that I can already obtain relatively easily and inexpensively. Granted, pepperoni probably doesn't have as steep of a learning curve as something like beer, but given how much time I have for side projects, the ROI isn't looking great.

    I have thought about getting into cheese making when I retire, though. Meat curing might be another thing to do.
