If you're tempted to spell the surname as "Newsome," no, it's "Newsom." Look before you spell. I see a lot of "Newsome"s in the Instapundit comments. Because people don't look. They glance, then they think they know. That's how mistakes happen.
He certainly is a swamp creature.
