My toe's been leaking a little more lustily over the past two or three days, which is disturbing, considering the trend up to now. I did say June was going to be a frustrating month, but I didn't anticipate it being frustrating in this way. The toe's been leaking back out to the sock again—just a little dot of fluid, but that's enough to annoy me these days. There seems to be more fluid inside the bandage as well; it's only a drop or two more, but I want the leakage to subside, not increase. Am I going to have to revise my prediction for when the leak will stop? I hope not. What bugs me, too, is that I'm behaving myself: no distance walking, and minimal "regular" walking. I guess I should read up on wounds and see whether there's an answer to my conundrum. Meantime... apply more blood-stopper powder?
Been cheering from (lurking on?) the sidelines reading about your progress while swamped with the semester. Finally have some breathing room to dive back into the sway. Are you supplementing with collagen peptides to aid skin healing and Vitamin K (to prevent bleeding, but interacts with warfarin and other blood thinners, beware)? This wound may need to heal from the inside out to get you back to 100 percent. Additional leakage could also be due to summer heat and humidity?
ReplyDeleteThe "from inside out" intuition is what makes me wonder whether another dose of the blood-stopper powder might be in order. The powder turns into a gel when it's in contact with blood, and the chemicals in the powder induce something like a scabbing reaction. Instructions say you're not supposed to apply anything more to a wound that's been treated with the powder: the body's natural healing processes take over from there, almost as if the powder is providing some sort of lattice that allows platelets, etc., to do their thing. So my thinking is that, if I could figure a way to inject the powder straight into the wound instead of clumsily trying to tamp the powder down through the wound's tiny opening, that might lead to some kind of result.
ReplyDeleteI wonder why my doc hasn't mentioned collagen peptides.
As for Vitamin K, I'm taking multivitamin supplements, and I have some Vitamin D tablets (plus magnesium and Omega-3), so I'm feeling pretty pilled up.
I don't believe I'm on Warfarin specifically. In fact, I think one of my "blood thinner" meds is just good old aspirin. I'll check my meds list again and see what chemical names or brand names pop up.
I'd get a second doctor's opinion from a wound care specialist as the time that this has gone on for is concerning. Also, don't overdo it with the vitamins, as I just found out that too much can be very bad for our health.
ReplyDeleteJohn,
ReplyDeleteAs you know, I have trust issues about "wound-care specialists."
