typhoon heading our way

It's off the western tip of Japan right now, but Typhoon Khanun is heading toward the Korean peninsula. My AccuWeather forecast says the rain will start sporadically tomorrow, then intensify as the week goes on. Maybe the typhoon will mark the end of 2023's monsoon season; we'll soon see. I was born in August, but I hate this month, especially here in Korea. Heat and humidity have never agreed with me, and that's why I have zero interest in visiting hot, humid Southeast Asian countries despite everything I hear about awesome food, friendly people, and cheap prices for everything. Living somewhere relatively more expensive forces you to engage in a bit more fiscal discipline. But I digress: Khanun is coming. It's scheduled to hit Busan first; this means that, if it rakes across the country in a northwestern direction, it'll lose a good bit of force as it passes over the Korean mountains. By the time it reaches Seoul, there shouldn't be too much in the way of wind, but there might still be a lot of heavy rain. Post-typhoon weather tends to be gorgeous, and the storm might even take away a small measure of the oppressive humidity, at least for a day. Then again, all storms leave groundwater, and groundwater converts to humidity in the heat.

However, the above-linked article says this:

The typhoon is expected to slowly head northeast towards waters west of Japan's Kyushu in the next few days. 

After passing through Japan, Khanun is forecast to move toward the East Sea and is projected to approach southeast of Ulleung Island and Dokdo islets around Wednesday morning, affecting Korea's eastern coastal area.

So the storm center might not hit Seoul at all, and all we'll feel is the slight lash of the storm's western edge as it bumbles northeastward. Just a few generically rainy days for us, then.
