China loves the American left because the American left thinks the way China does: stifle free speech and thought where you can—cancel it, crush it, destroy it. So when an American studio allows Martin Scorsese to make a film about the Dalai Lama, an enraged China gets US studios to capitulate, obliging those studios to release Scorsese's film in only two theaters, letting it go almost straight to video, then doing what it can to make sure people forget the film ever existed. I saw Scorsese's "Kundun" years and years ago (on home video) and thought it was a good, solid film, but I had no idea that China had bent over backward to make sure the film got buried. Below is part of that sad story.
