Last night's walk was good. I did the 14K route from my place of work to the Jamshil Bridge, then back to my place. Almost three hours on the nose: from 10:21 p.m. to 1:22 a.m., so that's about a 4.67 kph (2.9 mph) pace. The coolness certainly helped: I walk faster when it's cooler. There was also no backpack to weigh me down. I was in my Skechers (the treads are already starting to show some wear after over 200K of use), and everything was comfortable. No recurrence of pain in the right foot, and only a tiny ache when I got back to my place. The return after Jamshil Bridge was made creepy by the presence of a tall, lanky Korean dude who fell behind me but walked almost exactly the same route I did. It's the sort of thing that puts my introvert sensors on high alert. In the daytime, when tons of people are out, I don't care who's walking behind me, but when a single person is on my six at night, even if they're hundreds of yards back as this guy was, it grates on my nerves, and I start itching for a gun or a lightsaber or the power of telekinesis. Stalker or not, I made it to my apartment in fine fettle. At this point, I'm pretty sure the Skechers are an excellent shoe for short, 14K walks and for occasional 33K walks. They're not for continuous marches day after day. So they'll be fine, I think, as backups for infrequent use while I'm crossing South Korea.
Alright, good news, and it looks like you are ready and able for the upcoming big walk. I think I mentioned that the treads on my Skechers always wear down quickly, but otherwise, they are comfortable enough. What are you wearing for the long hike?
