Distance walking shifts my priorities, my mental focus. In my daily life in the city, there are things I dwell on—things that seem either important or distracting. When I'm out walking, though, all of that changes. I might notice a pretty face or a pretty ass when I'm in the city, but in the countryside, people are just people (although there may occasionally be exceptions). Construction equipment and other heavy machinery mean nothing to me in the city, but when I'm out walking, I'm constantly photographing tractors and harvesters. Everything becomes fascinating when I'm out on a walk: life becomes fascinating. Your own mileage may vary, but why not give walking a try and see how it changes the way you see things?
Walking, you say? Okay, I'll give it a try. Do 5 or 6K strolls count?
ReplyDeleteSeriously, though, walking does provide a refreshing change of perspective. I know these past several years I've walked through a lot of emotional pain that may have otherwise crippled me. It's a healthy habit for the mind and body.
