This painful litany of terrible dad jokes is tailor-made for John McCrarey, lover of cringe-inducing puns and other awful bits of humor:
Technically, most or all of these "jokes" are actually riddles. People often use joke and riddle interchangeably,* but in fact, a joke takes the form of a story while a riddle is almost always in Q & A format. There may be exceptions, but they are few in number.
YouTuber Elise Ecklund is fairly new to me; I'm still trying to decide how much I like her autistically deadpan style of humor. I'm into musical humor in general, but Elise may be a bit of an acquired taste. Along with her dead-eyed stare and studied expressionlessness, she looks as if she could afford to eat a bit more... but she's a talented singer, instrumentalist, and video-maker—all good qualities in an era of competitive content creation. She has about 3.7 million subscribers, so she's obviously popular. From what I gather, she lives in Tulsa. If she's an artistic type, she probably leans more left than right, but then again, she did do one video that featured a Bible quote at the end—something you don't normally see in leftie creations. Aside from the Bible quote, her videos seem free of political content, which is a plus if you're trying to attract a wide audience. As I said, I'm still figuring her out.

*Okay, not quite interchangeably. People freely say "joke" when they mean "riddle," but they rarely use riddle when they say, "I got a joke for you."
It should come as no surprise that I enjoyed this. Nothing like being spanked with a bit of slapstick to start the day.
ReplyDeleteBut, wait—there's more.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the encore. I think I'm in love!
