BREAKING: Kimberly Cheatle is outta here

Headline (paywall):

Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle Resigns

Kimberly Cheatle, the director of the U.S. Secret Service, has resigned.

“I take full responsibility for the security lapse,” she said in the email to Secret Service staff on July 23. “In light of recent events, it is with a heavy heart that I have made the difficult decision to step down as your director.”

Ms. Cheatle, who was sworn in as director in 2022, had previously rebuffed calls to resign in the wake of the assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump.

Lots of people initially refusing to step down, then stepping down. Good.

  1. Oops! I forgot to include my name in the comment about incompetence. I guess that makes me an expert on the subject. I got spoiled under your old system for commenting that automatically attached my handle. Sorry!

  2. Hm. When I hit "comment," the comment window still has a "comment as" line, and it's already automatically filled in with "Kevin Kim." Strange. Please let me know if this problem continues for you. I don't know what I can do about it, but maybe there's some solution lurking on a message board somewhere.

  3. I get three options: Google account, anonymous, and name/URL. When I click on name, my name appears, and I just click on it to fill in the "comment as" block.

  4. Ah. That's not so different from what happens when I comment on your blog. I click on the blank name field, and my name appears in a short menu (along with your name). I select my name, and boom—it's now entered in the name field. I have to do this every time I comment, but for what it's worth, I don't find it inconvenient since I've been doing it forever. Sorry if the previous Blogger configuration "pampered" you!
