I've been out of touch with US prices for years. According to Google AI:
Before the sharp price increases due to factors like bird flu, a dozen large, Grade A eggs in the US typically cost around $1.50 to $3, with prices generally staying below $2 since March 2016.
AI also plucked a New York Times chart showing the rise in egg prices from 2000 to 2022, into Biden's term:
Note how egg prices had been dropping during Trump's term, from his election in 2016 and roughly through to the beginning of 2021 (with a sudden peak in early 2021 when Biden started his "term"). Despite the first spike during Trump's term, the overall trend line is obvious. Then Biden took over.
Well, he "took over." I guess what we're seeing is more the work of his handlers.
That said, Vince Dao's right to be a bit circumspect: the current reduction in egg prices is small, relatively speaking, and we've got a while to go before we're back to $1.50-3 per dozen. Let's keep watching to see what happens. It's not "promises kept" quite yet.
Ted Lieu (featured in the video) is still a fucking idiot.
