The myths/false equivalences in a nutshell:
- Keto is the "optimal" diet (for everyone). (myth)
- "Saturated fat doesn't increase LDL" ≠ "BMI is more important than saturated fat in determining LDL when people are low-carb"
- "Statins are poison" (myth)
- "Meat can be beneficial" ≠ "Meat could imply environmental problems"
- "Fruit is bad" ≠ "Fructose has metabolically harmful properties"
- "Fiber = essential" (myth)
- All seed oils are bad—period. (myth)
- "Diet Coke is worse than Coke" ≠ "Diet Coke is not a health food"
- LMHR (lean-mass hyper-responders) and CVD (cardiovascular disease) risk are linked. (myth)
- IBD and diet are unrelated. (myth)
- CIM & CICO are incompatible. (myth)
- The Oreo vs. statin study
Watch the video for that last one, which is interesting.
In each case, Dr. Norwitz is suggesting that the truths we're being fed are actually more subtle and nuanced than simple, easy-to-remember declarations like "Statins are poison." I'm probably most guilty of believing Myth #7.
