But technically, a commander-in-chief is a title designating the supreme leader of the armed forces, so it's not quite right to ask "Who is our commander-in-chief?" It would be better to ask, "In America, who is the military's commander-in-chief?" If I'm not mistaken, the US Constitution mandates (Article II, Section 2) that the CIC must be a civilian. This was part of the whole "balance of power" idea. Our founding fathers were incredibly prescient.
