We actually watched this on Chuseok, and then yesterday we went out to a Chinese shop in the market to get some. We had the Dan Huang Su (蛋黃酥; the one with the salted egg yolk) and the Wu Ren (五仁; five nuts/seeds) mooncakes. I've had some pretty awful wu ren mooncakes where they put weird bright green and red candied stuff in them, but these were just nuts and seeds. Kind of reminded me of 씨앗호떡, actually, except not fried, of course. Both good, even though I would never have classified myself as a mooncake fan, either.
I'm sure I'd eat them if they were put in front of me, but mooncakes are on the spectrum somewhere close to red beans: I don't hate red beans, but given the choice, I'd rather eat something else. I don't like 팥떡 or 팥-flavored ice cream, but I'll eat it and tolerate if it's offered to me.

DeleteTo each his own, I suppose. I'm a fan of most things 팥.
