"Right," said Fred

A largely substance-free but nevertheless interesting video interview with "presidential maybe" Fred Thompson. The man leaves a good impression, but the interview didn't press him much on matters of actual import. He made noises about bipartisanship and tweaked a couple other issues near and dear to conservatives, but he still came off sounding like what he is: a man skirting the campfire but not stepping into the circle.

This might be a smart strategy for the moment; he probably wants to see what becomes of those who have already jumped into the fray. But he's doing this at the risk of being labeled a sissy by the press-- a man not quite brave enough to commit to a run, and then to go at it full steam. He does, however, have that photogenic magic: he comes off as pleasant, relaxed, and in control. That's a start. Now we need some actual substance.
