Director Ridley Scott's brother, Tony, depontiates.*
Scott's filmography is here.
*Yes, I made that word up. It's meant in the spirit of "defenestrate," i.e., to jump out a window to one's death (se défenestrer in French). That verb comes from the Latin fenestram, or window. Depontiate comes from the Latin pontis/pontem, or bridge, and simply means to jump off a bridge to one's death.

I thought defenestration was more to be "thrown" from a window. I had never given careful consideration on any possible difference between throwing oneself from a window or being thrown from a window by another.
ReplyDeleteI think I only use it in the context of someone else doing the throwing...
Of course I could just consult a dictionary on usage and settle the matter for myself...
But then I wouldn't be typing a comment...
Good point, but suicide by defenestration is also possible. Wikipedia has a good article on this.
ReplyDeleteGreat word-coinage!
