pronouncing it wrong this entire time

Susurrus. A noise like a whisper or murmur. Susurrate. Susurration.

I've been pronouncing it "SUSS-er-us" this entire time, but it's actually "soo-SERR-us." This reminds me of when my buddy Mike corrected my pronunciation of miscegenation years ago. I'd been saying "miss keg a nation," and Mike told me it was "miss edge a nation."

Damn. Embarrassing. But we learn through our mistakes, which is how I still learn Korean.

  1. I feel your pain. Way back in the day, when I would dictate correspondence into a voice recorder for my secretary to transcribe, she came into my office laughing and said, Boss, ascertain is not pronounced "as certain."

I got even with her, though. The big boss, Jack, was on holiday, and she marked her calendar, "Jack off." I asked, do you always schedule that activity?

    Thanks for the memories!
