Susurrus. A noise like a whisper or murmur. Susurrate. Susurration.
I've been pronouncing it "SUSS-er-us" this entire time, but it's actually "soo-SERR-us." This reminds me of when my buddy Mike corrected my pronunciation of miscegenation years ago. I'd been saying "miss keg a nation," and Mike told me it was "miss edge a nation."
Damn. Embarrassing. But we learn through our mistakes, which is how I still learn Korean.

I feel your pain. Way back in the day, when I would dictate correspondence into a voice recorder for my secretary to transcribe, she came into my office laughing and said, Boss, ascertain is not pronounced "as certain."
ReplyDeleteI got even with her, though. The big boss, Jack, was on holiday, and she marked her calendar, "Jack off." I asked, do you always schedule that activity?
