Just as one bad walk (this past Saturday) is not enough evidence of anything, one good walk isn't evidence, either, so over the next few weeks, I need to build up a preponderance of evidence, one way or another, of whether I can handle a sustained walk this year. There are a few factors in my favor: nights are much cooler now, making for very comfortable walking, and it won't be long before daytime walks become a thing, too. Also, the more I train, the stronger I'll get. You can't get conditioned without habit and repetition. And things like large hills along the trail shouldn't be a huge problem: I don't think I've ever tackled one of those hills without stopping at least several times, so if I need to this time, I'll just stop even more frequently. Not a single one of those hills is longer than a kilometer, so we're not talking about that much misery.
Whatever lassitude had plagued me Saturday night was absent tonight. The creek's flooding had receded, so I walked my normal path out to the Tan/Han confluence and back—9K. No angina, no shortness of breath, nothing except for that annoying, minor vertigo that's been with me since I left the hospital in late August. But that wasn't enough to bother or impede me, so I'll deal with it. It's either a new permanent condition (which would be bad, not to mention indicative of yet more neurological damage*), or it's just part of the post-hospital blahs and will go away in time, especially as I become more robust.
