I lied. Or maybe I exaggerated.

I'd promised that my next post would be all about those Star Trek quotes. It wasn't. And now I'm off to shop for some Western goodies, so I won't be posting again until much later this evening.

A list of things I'd like to cook this vacation, inspired by various blog-readings and the wistful murmurings of expats at EC, pining for a down-home Western meal:

1. tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich (thanks, Annika et al.)
2. cheese fondue (moitié-moitié, bien sûr)
3. spaghetti with real sausage, real Italian tomatoes, oregano, Parmesan, the works-- and HOME-MADE PASTA
4. a home-cooked "camp-style" pizza, using pita bread and a skillet (since I have no oven)
5. Mediterranean salad (niçoise or otherwise)
6. some rib-sticking corn chowder (the kind that starts off with bacon cooked to crispiness at the bottom of the pot-- is there any other kind?)

"Specialty" items I need to buy:

green bell peppers
cheeses-- Gruyère, Emmenthaler, goat, white cheddar, mozzarella, etc.
Italian tomatoes (regular tomatoes aren't rare in Korea)
shrimp (actually, these aren't rare, either: I'm on a peninsula)
sosiji (you'll get the joke; just say the word in your head)
baby spinach
garlic powder
oregano (fresh or dried; I'm not Italian, so I don't care)
parsley (same)
basil (same)
peas
green beans
capers
romaine lettuce
celery
pita or some other flatbread

Other ingredients are readily available for cheap in Korean stores. I also need:

1. a large pot for the chowder and spaghetti sauce and noodles
2. a rolling pin (or, as one co-worker suggested, a wine bottle, which leads me to...)
3. a bottle of white wine (el cheapo stuff works for me)

Damn... I should print this list out.
