the open letter to Jim Gaffigan

Comedian Jim Gaffigan pronounces himself genuinely perplexed as to how anyone could possibly support boorish, uncouth, nasty, disgusting Donald Trump. Christian Toto, a Hollywood-insider journalist, responds to Gaffigan with an open letter. It's worth a read. And while I'm not a Trump cheerleader, I may very well be voting for the man this year. Like Toto, I didn't vote for him in 2016. Unlike my friends and enemies on the left, though, I actually have an open mind and can change my stance based on evidence. Toto's open letter covers many reasons why voting for Trump is the rational thing to do. Here's an excerpt:

My Trump support is about more than a robust economy, though. I put up with his occasionally cruel Tweets, boastful posture and unpresidential mien for a simple reason.

Look at Plan B.

The modern Democratic party supports open borders. They see a bulging deficit (both parties are to blame here) and want to give free health care to illegal immigrants. They eviscerated a good man, Brett Kavanaugh, based on the flimsiest evidence possible.

All the while they’ve ignored Joe Biden’s serial groping and two women who credibly accused, and the phrase is properly used here, Va. Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax of sexual assault.

I stand with the side that's more plugged in to reality. That's not the current left, which looks at a booming economy, at significantly better employment conditions for blacks and Latinos, and sees a country in flames. The left ignores its own bullshit chicanery in its repeated attempts at taking down this president, at stifling free speech, and at eviscerating the Constitution through anti-Second Amendment legislation. Having done all that, it then shamelessly and sanctimoniously whines about the death of democracy. I have no sympathy for people that detached from reality, and for me, rubbing leftist noses in another four years of economic growth, energy independence, higher quality of life, and increasing global prestige will bring me lots and lots of Schadenfreude.

Yep, I'm completely on board with this rationale. Do I agree with everything Trump says and does? Of course not. I also can't argue with the results. He's doing what he was elected to do in the face of unprecedented (and likely illegal) opposition.

Four more years!
