We'll start positively with a non-disaster:
But know that much of today will be devoted to the shit-show that is "Emilia Pérez"—a musical about a Mexican cartel boss who undergoes trans surgery and hormone treatment to start a new life. This film has been nominated for thirteen Oscars, but everyone I've watched says it's trash, totally undeserving of that number of nominations, and further evidence that the Oscars lost all meaning years ago. I don't even bother with Oscar predictions anymore. The star of the movie is a real-life trans woman—Karla Sophía Gascón—who used to tweet some hilariously un-PC things back in the day. People are saying that her un-woke past (however woke she might be acting now) has doomed her and director Jacques Audiard's film's chances at this year's Academy Awards. I don't know... I can see this going either way: with the Motion Picture Academy already so woke and so out of touch, it might just plow ahead and award "Emilia Pérez" all the Oscars. Or maybe Gascón really has doomed her own film. I'll keep half an eye out for news about what happens. With Seoul currently 14 hours ahead of DC, I won't know most of the results until Monday morning, Seoul time. Not that I'm particularly interested. A shame, isn't it, what a circle jerk the Oscars have become. Ricky Gervais was a lone bright spot several years back, but his warnings about Hollywood wokeness and self-inflated fatuousness have gone ignored since his appearance as a prickly Golden Globes host. If anything, things have only gotten worse, what with the left blindly doubling down.
