nouvelle découverte

There's this popular apostille service called Monument Visa. They're not cheap, but they say on their website that, instead of sending my original diplomas to be apostilled, I can send high-quality scans. So I'll be hitting up the local Kinko's to have some 300-dpi scans made of both of my diplomas (they'll be stored on one of my thumb drives).

I thought about just going to my old place of work, two subway stops away (next to Daechi Station), and doing the scans myself on the office photocopier, which doubles as a scanner. That would be easier, and it would also be free. In the end, though, I think the local Kinko's is the better option because the scans will be done by pros, and I want to minimize the chance that my scans will be rejected.

So I'll be visiting Kinko's a bit after lunch (there's a branch up the street near Samsung Station) to get my two diplomas scanned (Georgetown and Catholic U.), then I'll come back with my scans and go through the process of uploading the scan data and ordering the apostilles from Monument Visa.

Later on, when I get my FBI background check, I'll have to get that apostilled, too. The total cost for all three documents will be close to $300. Good God.

Meantime, I asked the concierge in my building about what I would need to do to be able to put up an ad for private English tutoring in my building. It appears I'll have to visit the building's 4th-floor admin office to get permission; I can't just slap an ad up on the lobby bulletin board. I wonder if there will be a fee; how long the ad stays up probably depends on how much time I pay for.

Everything costs something.
