Said more eloquently than I could ever say, a worthy tribute to one of my all-time feel-good movies, the kind of thing I can watch when I'm feeling down:
I don't know whether I've ever written a full review of this movie, but I may have to write one now. I own it, but I haven't watched it in some time. But with today being Easter, my paschal tradition is to watch The Lord of the Rings all the way through in a three-day marathon, so any review would have to wait. There are also a few other things ahead in the queue.

I don't recall seeing "A Knight's Tale" before, but your praise inspired me to check its availability on Netflix. It's there, so now I have a new addition on my "to-do" list. Enjoy your LOTR journey. That NEVER gets old! I hope you are watching the extended version of "Return of the King."
ReplyDeleteI have the extended editions of every movie, and I once watched them all. In the end, I didn't like those versions very much. The only movie, of the three, that benefitted from extra footage was the first movie, especially the company's time with Galadriel in Lothlorien (e.g., when Gimli got the lock of Galadriel's hair, which I remember from the book). I actively disliked the additions to the third movie, many of which added unneeded comedy at awkward moments, e.g., when Gimli tries blowing away the ghostly ectoplasm of the dead in the Dimholt/Paths of the Dead. The Paths of the Dead scene, in the theatrical release, is a deadly serious moment, but the seriousness and dignity of that moment get sucked away by the extra material from the extended version. So yes, I much prefer the theatrical versions. Sorry. Maybe I should review the two versions of LOTR that we have.
