let there be light

I think the maintenance guys who went upstairs and repaired the leak tried to knock on my door (Wednesday evening?) to tell me the repairs had been done—this after my having said I'd prefer a text message. Don't expect Koreans to listen to you; they'll do whatever they think is best or most convenient to them. So I don't know for sure the repairs got done, but it's been almost two days, and there's been no drippage from above.

The next step is to finally get my ceiling lights repaired. I just opened up one ceiling-light housing to look at the panel and get the model and serial number. With that done, I just ordered the requisite part—it's called a "converter" (컨버터/keonbeoteo in Korean)—from Coupang, and it ought to arrive on Friday. After that, it's just a matter of calling a different group of maintenance people (I have all of their office numbers because of problems over the years), and they'll install the new converters, after which Bob will definitely be my uncle. By the weekend, I ought to have a normal apartment again, and enough lighting both to start photographing food and to no longer live like Gollum in a cave.
